5 Can’t-Miss EKG Objectives
Recorded 4/9/2021
If you do sports physicals, this lecture is a “Can’t-Miss” topic! We’ll cover 5 EKG findings that could have very bad outcomes, including Brugadas Syndrome and Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. You’ll meet a young female who the clinician thought was just anxious, but had something far more ominous. And, we’ll evaluate the EKG of an athlete who “passed out” and was discharged home with a normal workup and died. Plus, we’ll cover specific questions to ask a patient who has palpitations and findings to spot that machine software interpretation will not catch!

Looking to Lower Lipids? Start here
Friday 12/1/2023
12:00 PM EST
Cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of mortality in the US. Secondary prevention efforts focus on addressing elevated lipid levels to reduce morbidity and mortality. Statins have been the mainstay of therapeutic treatment for many years. During this dynamic 30-minute session, we will discuss newer agents that target lowering LDL cholesterol through a variety of mechanisms and how to use these medications in clinical practice. Don’t miss this!

Lipid Logic: The What, Why & How of Lipid Management
Friday 12/6/2024
12:00 PM EST
It is axiomatic to target LDL-C levels to lower cardiovascular risk. Over the past four decades, statins have been proven to reduce levels by over 50% and cardiovascular events by up to 30%. However, despite this, there is significant residual cardiovascular risk, LDL-C levels often remain above optimal levels, and there is a significant number of patients who cannot tolerate high-dose statins or any statin. Over the past decade, other lipid-lowering therapies, so-called “non-statins,” have been developed and added to statin or independent of statin (i.e., bempedoic acid), provide additional lipid-lowering and have been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular risk even more. We will review the pathophysiologic mechanism for how lipoproteins contribute to atherosclerotic plaque development, briefly discuss how APO B100 and Lp(a) fit in, review serum lipid level goals, and, through cases, become comfortable knowing how to consider and incorporate non-statin therapies into lipid management to lower cardiovascular risk.
