Psoriasis Awareness & Why Dermatology CME Matters

August is Psoriasis Awareness Month, an annual effort to increase awareness and understanding of a condition that affects around 100 million people worldwide. A chronic autoimmune condition, the most common form of psoriasis causes skin cells to develop more quickly than usual and build up, forming patches called plaques on the skin. It can worsen in the cooler months and can also affect joints and nails.

Regardless of the type, a 2020 study showed that people living with psoriasis often experience diminished quality of life – not only from physical discomfort, but also due  to perceived or real stigmas and misconceptions about the condition. With our skin being our body’s largest organ – and the first word in our name! – we at Skin, Bones, Hearts & Private Parts know how important it is to share dermatology-focused education and provide opportunities for medical professionals to learn new research and best practices about conditions including psoriasis.

In fact, Gina Mangin, MPAS, PA-C, a physician assistant (PA) and dermatology-focused presenter at three of our CME Conferences in 2024 – including in Pensacola Beach from September 10-13 – urges all medical professionals to “always be willing to learn new things, as medicine is always changing and advancing” and told us she was most excited to discuss the growing use of systemic medications to treat chronic diseases such as psoriasis and Atopic dermatitis.
